I have travelled to Hoi An twice and still want to come back again and again. This is my favorite destination because everything here is so beautiful and lovely. If you are looking for some information about your next trip to Hoi An, read my article until the end.

I visited Hoi An during March, the most beautiful time in Hoi An. The sky was clear with some lightly wind. There was neither rain nor storm, everything seems perfect during this month. However, do not worry if you cannot come in March, February and April should be the alternative times for your choices. And remember to avoid coming from August to December due to rainy season.

A small tip for you, on the 14th day of the Lunar Calendar monthly, locals will turn off their electric lights and light up lanterns. Some people also drop some floating lights on Thu Bon River as if making a wish for themselves. At this moment, the ancient town becomes extremely beautiful and romantic.

++ By Air

There is no airport in Hoi An, so you cannot flight directly there. First, you need to catch a flight to Da Nang (1,5 hour) and then transfer by taxi or public bus to Hoi An (it is 30km away – about 40 minutes driving). Average price for this trip is about 1,500,000 VND (64USD)

++ By Bus

Because there is no direct transfer from Saigon to Hoi An, you must take a bus to Nha Trang (8 hours transfer), then take another bus to Hoi An (12 hours transfer). However, I would not recommend you go this way, it takes a long time on the bus, and you will be very tired.

To book low-price accommodation, I recommend you try these booking websites: Agoda,, Airbnb and some local pages such as Luxstay, Prices are always cheaper than booking at the hotel’s front desk. Last time I booked a room in Hoi An with a 61% discount. It was 288,000VND per night only (my hotel had a swimming pool as well).

In Hoi An, there are many interesting places located near each other, so that you can easily go around by bicycle (or by motorbike). At my hotel, they have some good bike for rent at 30,000VND/ 1 bike/ 1 day. These are some must-see destinations in Hoi An:

  • Hoi An Ancient Town Hoi An is famous for its beautiful ancient town, this is also the most crowded place in Hoi An. Coming here, you can take a walk along the old streets and enjoy the typical features of ancient house architecture which follows the Japanese and Chinese style more or less. Traveling to Hoi An, you should visit the ancient houses of Quan Thang, Tan Ky, Phung Hung. These ancient houses are 150 years old and are considered the most charming houses in Hoi An they have remained almost intact.

  • Cua Dai Beach Cua Dai Beach is 5km far away from the ancient town. Its water is clean, its sand is white, and its coconut trees are very green and fresh. Coming here, you can order a coconut, lie on a lounge beach chair and enjoy the light waves of the ocean.

  • Cham Island This island is my favorite destination when traveling to Hoi An. The wildness and clear blue water attract me the most. There are some interesting activities for you: snorkeling, scuba diving, fishing and swimming.

  • Cafe: Sitting on the top of Faifo Coffee and watch the walking street below is an amazing experience at Hoi An Ancient Town. The café has a very beautiful view for those who love selfies and for couples to take pre-wedding photos. Address: 130 Tran Phu Street, Minh An Ward, Hoi An City.

  • Nem Lui (Pork Skewers) and Banh Xeo (Central Pancakes): The most famous and delicious place to eat is Gieng Ba Le Restaurant locating ar 45/51 Tran Hung Dao Street, Hoi An City. Last time we came here, they brought 2 portions for 2 of us. It was too much food, but then, we could return any skewers that we did not eat.
  • Chicken Rice: Containing a unique flavor, Hoi An chicken rice is cooked with fragrant, soft and good quality rice. And the chicken is raised in gardens so that its meat is tender, fresh and the smell is very delicious. To enjoy this dish, here are some good restaurants to go to: Ba Buoi Restaurant At: 22 Phan Chu Trinh street, Minh An Ward, Hoi An City Opening hours are from 11:00 until 19:00 (or until they have nothing to serve). If you want to enjoy it, you should come as early as possible. Ty Restaurant At: 23 Phan Chu Trinh street, Minh An Ward, Hoi An City Huong Restaurant At: 56 Le loi Street, Hoi An City

  • Fried Cakes: Walking along the streets you'll find many trolleys selling delicious yellowy donuts and savory cakes. These cakes cost about 5000 VND each. You should enjoy these when visit Hoi An.
  • Corn Sweet Soup: In the afternoon and early evening, you can easily meet many vendor ladies with their trolleys selling amazing corn soup.
  • Quang Noodle: I have eaten My Quang in both Danang and Hoi An styles and found that each place has their own different taste. However, I found Da Nang’s Quang noodles cheaper. Or perhaps because in Hoi An I ate it in the Old Quarter center so that it seemed more expensive than in Da Nang. However, in Hoi An they were more delicious and had a cleaner flavor. There are many good foods in Hoi An that I myself have not tried, so hopefully when you go there, you will enjoy sharing you experiences with everyone so that we will all have more and more positive experiences when traveling in Hoi An.
