1000 years of Thăng Long-Hà Nội means it's been 1000 years since the capital of Thăng Long was officially the capital of Vietnam (which is Hanoi capital today). This great event was marked when King Lý Thái Tổ issued the decree of moving the capital from another place, to Thang Long land now.

The journey to visit the ancient capital of Thang Long begins with Thăng Long Citadel. The Thang Long Citadel is a gigantic architectural work, built by successive dynasties through different eras and has become the most important monument in the Vietnamese monumental system. Constructed in the 11th century under the Ly Dynasty, the citadel marks the independence of Dai Viet, today’s Vietnam. The royal citadel was the center of political power for feudal dynasties. Thăng Long Imperial Citadel has been recognized by UNESCO as a world heritage cultural site.

Besides the Thăng Long Citadel, there are many other religious buildings constructed in this period of time, like the Chùa Một Cột (One Pillar Pagoda - which is also known by its other name Liên Hoa Đài). The unique architecture of this building was designed and built under the directive of King Lý Thái Tông in the winter of 1049.

Văn Miếu Quốc Tử Giám (The Temple of Literature) is also a famous building that is associated with the ancient capital of Thăng Long. It was built in 1070 by King Lý Thánh Tông. The Temple was historically the first university in Vietnam. It is a complex full of historical relics that are highlighted through stunning and harmonious architectural beauty. A place which marks many historical events of the country's hundreds of years of education and a national symbol for the foundation of learning, rolled into one.
